MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man with a neck tattoo that says “Money” tried to rob a cashier at a gas station off U.S. 1 near South Miami over the weekend, but left with no cash, sheriff’s deputies said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the would-be stick-up happened just before 3:15 p.m. on Saturday at the Shell at 8033 S. Dixie Highway in the unincorporated Glenvar Heights area.

Investigators said Colby Ryan Goldsmith, 36, first asked for the exterior bathroom key, “then returned into the gas station, with his jacket over his head, his hand in his pocket, implying a firearm at (the cashier) and demanding that he give him the money.”

The cashier refused and yelled for the stock clerk, deputies said. According to an MDSO arrest report, Goldsmith pointed the implied gun at him too.

The clerk then tried to leave the store, but Goldsmith pushed him toward the counter “and demanded the money,” the report states, and then tried to get behind the counter.

The cashier then pulled out a gun of his own and Goldsmith left, deputies said. Authorities said a South Miami police officer spotted him at Southwest 81st Street and 64th Avenue and detained him.

Both the cashier and clerk were able to identify Goldsmith, whose array of tattoos also includes “Gucci” inked on his right temple, as the suspect.

Deputies said Goldsmith, who is homeless, invoked his right to remain silent.

According to the arrest report, he was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the robbery.

Goldsmith was ordered held without bond on charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted strong-armed robbery and false imprisonment.

According to Florida Department of Corrections records, it’s not his first time in trouble for robbery. Goldsmith, who also goes by the alias “Colby Ryan Flip,” was convicted of armed robbery and grand theft auto in Volusia County back in 2019.

He served roughly four-and-a-half years of a five-year state prison sentence.

Goldsmith remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday afternoon.
