DAVIE, Fla. — The town of Davie marked its 100th anniversary on Saturday with a celebration that brought out neighbors, families and longtime residents to honor its rich history and small-town charm.
Formed in November 1925, Davie has grown alongside South Florida’s population boom. Once a rural outpost, it now has more than 105,000 residents — up from just 5,800 in 1970.
Despite the growth, residents say the town’s western, country character remains.
“You come here, and it’s like you’re in a country town,” one resident said with a laugh.
The centennial celebration at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds featured live music, carnival games and a petting zoo — along with a time capsule and vintage police carriage showcasing Davie’s early days.
“There’s a lot of new development coming, but there’s still a sense of hometown to Davie we still love,” another neighbor said.
For many, Davie’s warmth and authenticity keep them connected.
“Everyone comes back for a reason,” said one 16-year-old resident. “Davie is so heartwarming — it makes you feel like family.”
As Saturday night wrapped up, one sentiment echoed across the crowd: here’s to another 100 years of Davie.
