SWEETWATER, Fla. — A 47-year-old homeless woman was arrested after police say she threatened an employee with a nail clipper while trying to swipe a pack of cigarettes at a supermarket in Sweetwater late Tuesday morning.

It happened around 10 a.m. at Sedano’s Supermarkets, located at 10720 W. Flagler Street.

According to an arrest report, Katricia Humphrey asked for a box of cigarettes and told staff she would pay for them later.

When her request was denied and she was asked to leave, Sweetwater police say Humphrey became irate.

They said Humphrey then armed herself with a nail clipper and began threatening the store employee, who is 70 years old, as she moved toward him and went behind the counter.

Police said she grabbed the cigarettes while continuing to make stabbing gestures and told the victim, “You will die,” placing him in fear for his life.

The employee pushed Humphrey away in self-defense and recovered the cigarettes, valued at $13.79, according to the report. Bystanders helped remove Humphrey from the store until officers arrived and took her into custody.

Jail records show she is facing one count each of aggravated assault on a person 65 years or older with a deadly weapon, armed robbery with a weapon, and petty theft.

As of Wednesday, she was being held on a $15,001 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
