MIAMI — A judge has filed a temporary injunction in the case against the transfer of land to build the Trump Presidential Library next to the Freedom Tower in Downtown Miami.
The ruling came down Monday evening.
A Miami judge ruled the Miami Dade College’s board of directors didn’t give the public a fair chance to know what was going on.
The court sided with historian and activist Marvin Dunn, who sued to stop Miami Dade College from transferring a 2.6-acre lot near to the state of Florida.
The land was expected to be turned over to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, but the judge now rules the college violated Florida’s Sunshine Law.
She said the board’s public notice only mentioned “potential real estate transactions” without explaining the specific deal.
The order blocks the transfer, for now, keeping the property in the college’s hands until a final decision is made.
Dunn’s attorney Richard Bronsky released a statement to Local 10 which read, in part:
“We are very pleased that Judge Ruiz has issued a hard-hitting order granting Dr. Dunn’s motion for temporary injunction. She ruled in his favor on all issues pertinent to his motion.”
Bronsky went on to say that he fully expects the board of trustees to fight the ruling, but he ensured that they will continue to work to make sure the Sunshine Act is upheld.
Dunn has ten days to post a $150,000 bond for the injunction to take effect.
Miami Dade College has already filed a notice of appeal.
