MIAMI LAKES, Fla. — A teacher at a Miami-Dade public school was taken into custody on Tuesday after authorities in North Carolina issued a warrant for her arrest on multiple child sex crimes charges.
Jordan Kacie Hawk was listed online as a social studies teacher at Miami Lakes K-8 Center, located at 14250 NW 67th Ave., before her profile was taken down. It’s where she was arrested just before 10 a.m., according to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Hawk, 26, is facing four counts of indecent liberties with a minor in the Tar Heel State. She was wanted by police in the Charlotte suburb of Kannapolis, North Carolina.
A spokesperson for the Kannapolis Police Department said the “incidents took place earlier this year when Ms. Hawk was teaching at a local school and involved a juvenile student.”
Officials didn’t provide any additional details.
Appearing in court on Wednesday, Hawk indicated that she wanted to waive extradition proceedings to North Carolina.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Miami-Dade County Public Schools said that district officials were aware of Hawk’s arrest ― and that she has since been fired and “prohibited from future employment” with M-DCPS.
The spokesperson said district officials are “cooperating with authorities involved in this matter.”
