According to Sunny Isles Beach police, the attempted traffic stop occurred on Collins Avenue near 174th Street on Thursday.

Police said the driver, identified as Joshua Tilo Moreno, 24, of Plantation, refused to identify himself and ignored multiple orders to exit the vehicle.

“As officers attempted to take him into custody, the driver accelerated, dragging an SIBPD Sgt while fleeing northbound on Collins Avenue,” a news release from the police department stated.

Moreno was eventually located and arrested in Plantation on several charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, fleeing and eluding and providing a false name.

The sergeant who was dragged was not seriously injured, police said.

Authorities said Moreno was also wanted on two outstanding warrants from New York, including one related to a shooting and another for violation of parole and bail jumping.

As of Wednesday morning, Moreno was being held at the Broward County Main Jail without bond.
