NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A small plane made an emergency landing along a trail in North Lauderdale on Monday afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters staged in the 8100 block of Southgate Boulevard, alongside a canal.
6 p.m. video:
Video from Sky 10, taken at around 5 p.m., shows the Cessna Skyhawk, registered to FXE Flightcenter Corp., on the sidewalk. There was minor damage to the left wing and the back rudder.
The pilot and the student on board were unhurt.
The pilot told Local 10 News that he took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, had fuel issues and had to make the emergency landing.
Matthew Torres, who lives nearby, saw the commotion as it was occurring.
Witnesses said one woman on the ground was treated for a minor injury.
“They were telling me that she was sitting on the bench, just sitting there,” said Torres. “And according to somebody else, the engine was off, so she must’ve not heard it, so she must’ve just jumped out of the way last minute, hurt her knee, somebody said. So she was carted off for that reason.”
