DAVIE, Fla. — More than 700 people gathered Sunday at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center to mark two years since the October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel.
Hosted by the Jewish Federation of Broward County and 70 partner organizations, the event honored victims and called for the return of hostages still held in Gaza.
“The fact that they still have people, and that they have dead people -- it’s just beyond comprehension. What they’ve done to us has been really terrible,” said attendee Thea Seminoff.
The names of hostages were read aloud, as hope builds for a possible truce. Israel and Hamas are set to begin indirect negotiations in Egypt this week.
“Anything we can do and I think that anything Trump can do to help accelerate in bringing the people home is good,” Seminoff said, reflecting the desire for reunification.
Still, others expressed caution.
“Are you hopeful about this deal?” Local 10’s Rosh Lowe asked one attendee.
“No,” the woman responded. “No, I am not hopeful. They don’t negotiate and they’re asking for so much.”
Organizers say they hope this chapter of history ends with the hostages coming home.
