Police say no arrests have been made, and the scene remains active more than 12 hours after the first shots were reported.

Authorities were alerted around 8:30 p.m. by their ShotSpotter system to gunfire near Northwest 16th Avenue and 47th Street. When officers arrived, they found a car riddled with bullet holes, but no victims at the scene.

A short time later, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office told investigators that two men had arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

They said one had been shot and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second suffered a graze wound, was treated, and released.

Evidence markers remain scattered throughout the area as detectives work to piece together what happened.

Neighbors said the shooting did not come as a complete surprise.

“I have seen at that corner the past month … there has been a lot of activity,” said Gaby Ruiz, who lives nearby. “It sounded like popping noises, so I just assumed it was fireworks … then it was like multiple, back to back to back.”

Residents said the area has been increasingly tense, and the violence Friday night has left some shaken.

Police continue to investigate the incident and have urged anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
