Southridge came from behind to beat Edison 30-16 in an afternoon high school football matchup on Friday.
Edison jumped out to an early lead in the second quarter when Michael Clayton connected over the middle and raced six yards for a touchdown, putting the Red Raiders up 16-0. But Southridge responded before halftime, tying the game at 16 in the third quarter.
Darius Jones powered in for the go-ahead score, and Southridge’s defense held strong in the second half, scoring 30 unanswered points to secure the victory.
In another Broward matchup, Chaminade hosted Monarch and never looked back.
Starting backed up on their own 5-yard line in the first quarter, Texas commit Derek Cooper broke free and sprinted 95 yards for a touchdown, celebrating with fans in the front row.
Later, Arwin Jackson added a 35-yard touchdown run, helping Chaminade cruise to a 28-7 win.
