MIAMI — Police in South Miami are searching for a woman they said visited 15 different stores across Miami-Dade and Broward counties, racking up more than $6,000 in purchases over the course of six days.
“Dollar General, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, BJs,” said South Miami police detective Jackie Del Sol. “Lavish trips, getting new AirPods, a handful of jeans, gas stations.”
The credit card being used by the woman was stolen from Gleam Hair Studio located at 7301 Southwest 57th Court in Miami.
“I feel taken advantage of,” said salon owner Milanie Boyer.
Boyer explained to Local 10 News they recently ordered a new credit card that ended up in the hands of a woman seen on video wearing a medical mask.
“I don’t know her, I don’t recognize her, never seen her around here,” said Boyer. “These con artists, they are very smart.”
Boyer said she was only alerted to the theft after checking the businesses bank statements and finding nearly 20 transactions totaling $6,300 from Aug. 22nd through Aug. 27.
“It is a lot of money to be out of,” she said. “The worst part is, I had requested a new card because I had fraud on the other one.”
Investigators believe the woman they are looking for has done this before.
“She knew to conceal herself by using the medical mask,” said Del Sol. “She’s also wearing it seems like the same type of clothing on most of the days.”
Police said the woman was seen driving a dark-colored Buick Encore and is believed to be in her mid-30s to early 40s.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts or who thinks they recognize her is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
