NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A fiery crash between a Tesla and an SUV killed one person in North Miami Beach on Wednesday afternoon.
According to North Miami Beach police and Miami-Dade fire dispatch records, the wreck happened just after 4 p.m. in the 3100 block of Northeast 163rd Street.
Video from Sky 10 and from witnesses showed the Tesla on fire after slamming into a utility pole; police said the driver was trapped inside the burning car and died.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, at least two people inside the SUV were taken to an area hospital. Officials confirmed that medics took one of them to the trauma center at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.
Police haven’t released the name of the person killed in the crash as of early Wednesday evening. They asked drivers to avoid the area.
“Lane closures and delays are expected while the investigation continues,” Detective Corey Darden, a North Miami Beach Police Department spokesperson, said.
