WILTON MANORS, Fla. — An investigation is underway after a home invasion in Wilton Manors over the weekend. The man arrested in the case was left badly bruised during the incident.
In his mugshot, Austin Caresani has visible bruises and injuries across his face following his arrest on a residential block in Wilton Manors on Saturday.
Wilton Manors police say Caresani, 31, of Deerfield Beach, entered a home through the front door despite having no ties to the residence.
Prosecutors have charged him with home invasion robbery without a weapon.
“I set bond in the amount of $20,000. You’re not to return and you’re not to have any contact with the alleged victim,” a judge said during Caresani’s bond hearing.
The arrest happened along Northeast 24th Street and Third Avenue, apparently as Caresani tried to run away from a witness.
He later appeared in court just hours after being taken into custody.
Investigators say Caresani told officers after the crime that he had consumed several alcoholic drinks at a nearby club and was trying to find a friend’s home in the area.
Charging documents do not indicate whether Caresani actually knew someone in the neighborhood, nor how he sustained the bruises visible in his mugshot.
