MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man and a child died after a car crash on Friday in Miami-Dade County’s South Miami Heights neighborhood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a man driving a black Lexus sedan died at the scene.
A child occupant of the Lexus was airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he later died. Both were traveling in the Lexus at the time of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that none of the four occupants of a gray GMC sports utility vehicle involved in the crash were injured. The GMC sustained rear-end damage, and the Lexus ended up facing the opposite direction.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office assisted FHP, the lead investigating agency. Authorities confirmed that the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded.
Quail Roost Drive, also known as State Road 994, was temporarily closed and reopened by FHP troopers around 11 p.m.
FHP’s Lt. Alex Camacho said the investigation remains active and the names of the victims will not be released at this time.
