HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. — A lightning strike reportedly claimed the lives of two South Florida men and their dogs.
It happened earlier this week in Highlands County, northwest of Lake Okeechobee.
Local 10 News has learned that the two victims are from the Miami area. They were identified by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office as 38-year-old Alexander Karl Getz and 31-year-old Peter James Stansky.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the men and their two dogs were on a hunting trip when they were struck by lightning sometime Monday evening.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had been searching for the men after they did not return from their trip and officers located the men’s car parked in the area.
