Miami-Dade correctional deputies booked Jonathan Rivas on Thursday morning at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Doral.

Rivas was driving recklessly northbound on Northeast 19 Avenue near 170 Street on Wednesday in North Miami Beach, speeding and weaving in and out of traffic, before he crashed into several cars at Northeast 18 Road and 185 Street, according to a police officer’s arrest report.

Rivas got out of his crashed Honda, ran until a police officer pushed him to the ground, and ”gave several distractionary strikes to the ribs and face" before his arrest at 1812 Miami Gardens Drive, according to the report.

Before the pursuit, an officer reported there was a “strong odor of marijuana” coming from the Honda, and Rivas was “furious” when an officer ordered him to get out for a search and found “two glass pipes and two empty baggies,” according to the report.

After his arrest, police officers took Rivas to a North Miami Beach Police Department station and to Jackson Memorial Hospital before dropping him off at the jail.

Rivas faced six charges: Attempting to elude police after an accident with injuries or damages, reckless driving with serious bodily injury, fleeing and eluding a police officer, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.
