The suspect, identified by Sunrise police as Jabbar Guy Amonaa, faces one count each of attempted murder, illegal possession of a weapon as a convicted felon and public order crimes – criminal attempt/solicit/conspire, a second-degree felony, according to jail records.

Police said officers were called to the 6300 block of Northwest 18th Street shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday after a report of a shooting near 63rd Avenue, west of Lauderhill.

Officers said they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg.

They said he was conscious and later taken by Sunrise Fire Rescue to Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. His injury was considered non-life-threatening.

According to an arrest report, the victim flagged down officers while limping and using a shirt to wrap his knee.

The victim told police that he and Amonaa had been arguing over a shared vehicle before the dispute escalated into a fight near the front door of the home where both individuals live, the report stated.

Authorities said Amonaa blocked the victim from entering the residence and then approached him with a handgun.

The victim said he tried to defend himself with pepper spray but ran out of the home when he heard two gunshots. He then fled to a neighbor’s house, called 911, and only then realized he had been struck in the right leg, according to the report.

Police said Amonaa remained at the home and pointed to a gun on the floor when officers approached.

The victim’s nephew, who was inside the home at the time of the shooting, told police that he heard one to three shots fired but did not see the actual shooting since he was in his room, the report stated.

The victim told investigators that he wanted to press charges.

A doctor at Westside Regional Hospital in Plantation later confirmed the wound was not life-threatening and that the victim was in stable condition.

Amonaa made a statement that was redacted from the publicly-released report.

As of Tuesday, he was being held without bond at the Broward County Jail.
