MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Pembroke Pines man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that authorities say stemmed from an early morning argument outside a Miami-Dade apartment complex earlier this summer.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said 44-year-old David Jason Casanas was taken into custody on Monday at a UPS warehouse where he worked.

Jail records show he is facing one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Investigators said the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on June 22 in front of the Gables Court Apartments at 6821 SW 44th St.

According to an arrest report, Casanas and another man began arguing after leaving a bar with an unknown woman.

Detectives said Casanas wanted to return to the bar with the woman, but the man wanted to go home, leading to a heated dispute inside the car.

They said the disagreement escalated once they returned to the apartment complex, where the man asked Casanas to get out of his car.

At some point during the argument, deputies said Casanas pulled out a “sharp cutting instrument” — believed to be a knife — and stabbed the man multiple times in the chest, back and arm before fleeing on foot.

They said the victim later went to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he received stitches for his injuries.

Deputies said the victim, who has known Casanas for about a year, identified him in a photo lineup.

They also obtained hospital records and video evidence from the scene as part of their investigation, according to the report.

Authorities said Casanas was arrested without incident and refused to speak with investigators.

He did not appear as an inmate on the Miami-Dade Corrections’ website as of Tuesday morning.
