1 dead, 1 injured after multiple shootings in west Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies swarmed an apartment building in west Miami-Dade on Tuesday.

Officials with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they were in the midst of a shooting investigation at the building off Northwest 72nd Avenue and Third Street, southeast of the Dolphin-Palmetto interchange.

5 p.m. report:

Miami-Dade deputies investigate shooting at apartment building

Medics took an injured woman to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

According to deputies, neighbors alerted them to the shooter, who was inside a fourth-floor unit.

Deputies said they found the suspect inside the unit, and there was an exchange of gunfire before deputies moved into a tactical position and called in Special Response Team (SRT).

Authorities confirmed that three deputies discharged their weapons in the shooting.

It was SRT officers who went in and found the suspect deceased, deputies said.

9 p.m. report:

1 dead after deputy shooting in west Miami-Dade

One resident reported hearing about “seven or eight” gunshots.

Authorities shut down traffic at Northwest 72nd Avenue and Flagler Street.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, as is customary with police shootings.
