NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A man has died after he was shot early Wednesday morning in North Miami Beach, police confirmed.
The shooting was reported at about 1:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Northeast 169th Street and appeared to have occurred along the street right in front of a gated parking lot for the Harvard House apartments.
Several evidence markers could be seen along the sidewalk, all heading back to an exit gate for the parking lot.
Several more evidence markers were spotted in the street and in a parking spot right next to a parked SUV.
Some of the bullets struck several cars, including an SUV where a bullet hole was left in the rear liftgate.
A taxi driver who lives at the apartment building had a bullet go right through his car’s front windshield.
“I tried to go to my car and I see it got bullets,” Franklin Pierre said.
Another neighbor told Local 10 he heard about 15 gunshots.
Police confirmed that the victim who was shot was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he died.
After the shooting, detectives were seen going door to door at some nearby homes, trying to see if anyone may have heard or witnessed anything overnight.
What led up to the shooting and whether the shooter may have been in a car or on foot is still unclear at this time.
As of 6 a.m., the roadway remained blocked off as the investigation continued.
No other details were immediately released.
