DANIA BEACH, Fla. — Broward County deputies announced an arrest on Wednesday in connection with a body found near a Dania Beach canal the day prior.
Authorities said it was a murder ― and the suspect was the victim’s teenage brother.
6 p.m. report:
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the agency received a call at around 8 a.m. Tuesday reporting the body near Ocean Waterway Boulevard and Old Griffin Road.
They said deputies found Kevin Dominique, 23, dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to BSO, deputies determined that Dominique’s 15-year-old brother, Demetre Fleurimond, “intentionally shot and killed” Dominique at their home on Southwest Sixth Avenue, about a mile away from the scene, then drove his body to the wooded area and left it there.
Their mother, Marie Jeanty, told Local 10 News on Wednesday that she is in shock and doesn’t have the words to explain how she’s feeling, saying she lost both of her sons.
10 p.m. report:
Jeanty said she spoke with her son Tuesday morning to make sure he made it to the bus stop, but he never mentioned anything about Dominique, who, according to an arrest report, had been last seen alive Sunday and was later reported missing.
“I remember at 6:29 I called him to get out of the house,” she said. “Twice I called him, he never said anything. Nothing. And he knew he killed Kevin and dumped Kevin by the lake. Drove Kevin’s car and put it by the city library parking lot.
“Fifteen times, he shot Kevin to make sure he didn’t survive.”
As for a motive, Jeanty said she asked her son if Dominique ever sexually abused him and said, “He said no.”
Instead, she thinks Fleurimond’s rage stemmed from being asked to do chores.
“Sunday morning, when I came back I saw the kitchen tiles were clean,” Jeanty said. “I said, ‘I know you did it, but Kevin must’ve asked you to do it.’ He said, ‘Yes I did it. Kevin told me to do it.’ I believe that made him mad.”
Deputies took Fleurimond to the Juvenile Assessment Center on a first-degree murder charge.
He’s set to appear in court at 11 a.m. Thursday.
