FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A suspect has been taken into custody after a man and a woman were stabbed early Friday morning inside a home in Fort Lauderdale’s Edgewood neighborhood, police confirmed.
Neighbors told Local 10 News they believe the suspect stabbed his mother and stepfather in the early morning hours, with many waking up to crime scene tape marking off part of the 1400 block of Southwest 32nd Court.
“It’s so sad, especially since we knew them for a long time,” said resident Angel Peña.
The relationship between the suspect and both victim has not yet been disclosed, however, Alejandra Hoyos, who lives nearby, said the suspect and victims “seem like a normal family.”
Newly obtained surveillance video shows the moment Fort Lauderdale police arrived at the home, blocking off the street with yellow tape. Officers said responded around 2 a.m. to reports of a stabbing.
Police said they found a woman inside the home suffering from life-threatening injuries. The male victim, who had also been stabbed, ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
“I saw police chasing someone — 10 minutes later I saw the son cuffed,” said neighbor Alejandra Hoyos.
Authorities said the suspect is known to both victims and that the incident appears to be domestic in nature.
Several residents told Local 10 News the neighborhood is typically quiet with no history of trouble.
“I’m always talking with everyone, so they are very nice … so I can’t complain about it,” one man said.
Police said there is no threat to the public. No other details have been released.
