MIAMI — United Airlines announced that a technology disruption was the cause of flight delays Wednesday evening, into early Thursday morning.
Unimatic, which stores flight data and feeds it to other systems, started to malfunction shortly after 5:10 p.m., according to the airline’s announcement.
“We are working with customers to get them to their destinations,” an airline spokesperson said, adding there were “residual delays” after the issue was resolved.
As a “controllable delay,” United Airlines reported paying customer expenses, such as hotels, when applicable.
While the underlaying issue was resolved in just a couple of hours, delays lasted well after.
A spokesperson for Miami International Airport confirmed that United had four arrivals and two departures delayed Wednesday afternoon due to the tech issue, and two arrival and two departure delays Thursday morning.
