Dancers try out for Miami Heat dancers open spots

MIAMI — Hundreds of dancers came to the Kaseya Center on Saturday hoping to make the cut and become a member of a very prestigious group.

In order to become a Miami Heat dancer, the girls auditioning knew they had to be perfect.

“I need to be on this team,“ said auditioner Brettnie Blake. ”A lot of my friends have done it already and I said ok this is my turn.”

Spice, technique, stamina, and endurance is required for these girls.

“I am a bit nervous but also excited,” said Amaya White. “It’s good nerves, you know what I mean? I just want to dance.”

Many of the dancers in attendance have trained their whole life for this, and it’s only the first day.

Most of the women won’t survive Saturday.

About 400 dancers competing for 1-5 rookie spots for an 18-22 girl team.

Coach Natalia Gonzalez gave advice to these dancers.

“Be your authentic self,” said Gonzalez. “The judges can see that, obviously we can see that the dancers are nervous, so we give them grace. We want them individuals for who they are and that’s what we want them to show us on the court.”
