A man and a woman were in a sports utility vehicle on the 10th floor of a garage that condominium residents and hotel guests share, at 230 NE 4th St., in Downtown.

Detectives identified the man, a shooting victim, as Darius Coon, who had moved to Miami from Detroit a few months ago and had been reported missing on July 16.

“I talk to my son three, four, five times a day,” said his grieving mother, Tashia Porter, adding, “When he didn’t call, I knew something was wrong.”

Detectives identified the woman as Chastidy Rodriguez, who was visiting from New York. Relatives said she had recently met Coon in South Florida.

“She hung out with him one or two times,” Randy Parra, Rodriguez’s brother, said.

Coon, the father of a teenage boy who plays football and a 7-year-old girl, was 31. Rodriguez, the mother of a 10-year-old boy, was 35.

“She was a great mother; she didn’t deserve to go out this way,” Parra said.

Detectives were still reviewing surveillance videos on Friday, police said. They asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
