BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — New details were released Friday, a day after the body of a 27-year-old man was found floating in a canal in western Broward County.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, they received a call shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday about a vehicle in a canal near the 18000 block of Krome Avenue in unincorporated Broward County.
Deputies who were in Weston responded to the scene along with BSO’s Dive Team, Missing Persons Unit, Marine Patrol and the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Unit.

A BSO spokesperson confirmed that deputies located a Chevy Tahoe that was submerged in the canal, but no one was initially found in the water.
Deputies said a family member of the victim, Ramiro Gomez-Diaz, 27, returned to the area early Thursday morning and spotted his body floating in the water.
Deputies were called back out to the scene and removed the victim’s body from the water.
Gomez-Diaz, of Hialeah, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Loved ones believe he was in the area to go fishing.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway and into the canal,” BSO spokesman Carey Codd said in a news release. “Detectives saw tire marks leading to the canal, and a bumper and headlight were observed floating in the water.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
According to loved ones, Gomez-Diaz and his brother lived together in South Florida, having immigrated from southern Mexico to work as landscapers.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help return Gomez-Diaz’s body to his family in Mexico where his funeral will be held.
