MIAMI — G. Holmes Braddock, who served on the Miami-Dade School Board for nearly four decades and was the namesake of one of the county’s high schools, died Thursday, one day after his 100th birthday, the district announced.
Braddock served on the board for 38 years and championed school desegregation efforts in what was then Dade County during his 1969-1970 chairmanship, according to his biography on the G. Holmes Braddock High School website. The high school opened in 1989 off Southwest 147th Avenue in west Miami-Dade.

He was also known in the community as an avid supporter of the football team at his alma mater, the University of Miami.
Saying he was “deeply saddened” to learn of his death, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Jose Dotres called Braddock “a true titan in education” in a post to social media platform X.
“His legacy of dedication and service to our students and community will forever be remembered and cherished,” Dotres said. “Our thoughts are with his loved ones.”
Information about a memorial service wasn’t immediately available Thursday.
