Mail carrier stabbed in Biscayne Park, suspect in custody

Video from Sky 10 showed Biscayne Park police officers putting a handcuffed man in the back of a squad car. Video taken from the ground showed the letter carrier’s uniform drenched in blood.

“Upon arrival, officers located the alleged offender and immediately took the individual into custody without incident,” Biscayne Park acting police Chief Jorge Rosero said in a news release. “Responding units also rendered first aid to the postal worker, who sustained what appeared to be a stab wound to the torso. The victim was conscious and alert at the scene.”

The mail carrier is expected to survive, police said. Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect and said they had yet to determine a motive for the attack.

“He’s a great person. Yeah, we talk every day, we hug, we joke around,” one stunned neighbor said, who said the letter carrier has been on the route in Biscayne Park for 12 years. “He’s the best.”

Rosero said his agency and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating.
