BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Humane Society of Broward County is hoping to find a forever home for Kira, a 1-year-old Labrador mix with boundless energy and a sweet personality.
Kira, who weighs about 33 pounds, was introduced during Local 10’s Adopt a Pet segment on Saturday morning.
She arrived at the shelter from another facility and, despite a little nervousness in the car, has been friendly and affectionate with everyone she meets.
“She’s got a lot of energy, she’s very curious, and she loves giving kisses,” said Cherie Wachter, vice president of marketing at the Humane Society of Broward County. “She already knows how to sit and lay down — especially if there’s a treat involved — so she has a lot of potential.”
Wachter said Kira gets along well with other dogs and currently has a kennel mate at the shelter. She described Kira as an ideal match for a family with children or another active dog.
“If you’re looking for a smart, playful dog and are willing to put in the time to train her, Kira could be the perfect addition to your home,” Wachter said.
In addition to Kira, the shelter has more than 80 cats and kittens available for adoption. Wachter noted that the summer season often brings an influx of kittens and now is a great time to consider adding one to the family.
“Every adopted animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and thoroughly checked by our vet team,” Wachter said. “It’s a great value and more importantly, you’re giving a pet a second chance.”
The shelter is currently experiencing limited access due to construction near the railroad tracks on Griffin Road. Visitors are encouraged to seek alternate routes and visit during regular hours.
