MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities have identified a couple who they say were involved in an apparent murder-suicide that unfolded Friday morning across two areas in Miami-Dade County.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 10:23 a.m. near Northwest 10th Lane and Northwest 127th Path in the Tamiami area.
Upon arrival, authorities said they found Ana Beatriz Santo Rodriguez, 29, lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Shortly after, officers from the City of Sweetwater Police Department responded to a crash near Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest Third Street, where they found Liev Canals, 48, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of a black SUV. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to investigators.
Detectives said the two were boyfriend and girlfriend.
Surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News appears to show the couple arguing and struggling inside a vehicle before two gunshots were heard.
Authorities believe Canals shot Rodriguez, dragged her body from the SUV at a driveway on Northwest 127th Path, and fled before crashing several miles away in Sweetwater.
Investigators have not confirmed the exact sequence of events, and the motive remains under investigation.
