Mom to Mom: Expectant mothers can request parking permit in Florida

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Expectant mothers can now apply for temporary parking permits in the state of Florida.

The law, which took effect on July 1, would allow expectant mothers to apply for a permit with the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The Miami-Dade County of the Tax Collector’s Office will provide the permit, which are valid for up to one year and cost $15, to expectant mothers in South Florida.

With the permit, expectant mothers will be allowed to park in designated disable parking spaces.

To apply for a temporary expectant mother parking permit, mothers must complete form HSMV 83040, which must be signed by a licensed Florida physician.

Permits can be requested through a Florida licensed physician and once they care completed can be submitted to any Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office or authorized license plate agency.

A similar ordinance was passed in Miami-Dade County in May. Ordinance 25-45 allows for expanded stroller friendly parking spaces throughout Miami-Dade County.
