Investigation underway after woman found dead in donation box in Plantation

PLANTATION, Fla. — Authorities are investigating after a woman was found dead early Friday morning, partially lodged in a donation box in Plantation, according to police.

Officers with the Plantation Police Department said they were dispatched around 6:45 a.m. to the 8300 block of West Federated Road after receiving a report of a person stuck in the box.

When they arrived, police said they found a woman who was partially trapped inside and determined that she was deceased at the scene.

Police said the preliminary investigation suggests the incident was accidental. However, the case remains under investigation.

The incident has left the Plantation community shocked.

“It was a very tragic thing to happen, it’s not something that you see everyday so to come in here this morning to work and see that- all that commotion going on, its very sad to hear,” said Crystal Flores, who works nearby.

“I just hope that things do end up getting better -- just more support for them because they do need it. They are human beings and for something like that to happen -- it’s just a sad accident,” added Flores.

The woman’s age or identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Several hours later, the pink donation bind was removed and placed onto a truck before being hauled away from the scene.
