FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Temporary runway closures are scheduled to begin next week at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
In a staggered approach, all arriving and departing flights will be diverted to a single runway during designated closure periods.
The airport operates two runways, both of which will undergo scheduled maintenance.
Beginning June 2, the North Runway will be closed daily from 12:01 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. through June 4.
During these hours, all airport traffic will be directed to the South Runway.
Starting June 4, the South Runway will close nightly from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through June 7, to complete routine maintenance. During this time, all flights will be diverted to the North Runway.
Airport officials said FLL is currently undergoing a major expansion project to accommodate the increasing number of passengers traveling through the airport.
However, it is unclear whether the runway maintenance is directly related to the ongoing improvements.
