Police: Woman and her dog injured during shooting in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A dog and a woman were wounded during a shooting on Friday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale.

The shooting was on the sidewalk along Seabreeze Boulevard near Harbor Drive, police said.

Joe Matelsky said he was walking on the beach when he heard four gunshots.

“The victim’s dog got scared and bit the shooter,” Matelsky said.

Anthony LaPlant said the victim was his girlfriend who was walking his two dogs “Sweetie” and “Chosen.” The dog that allegedly got scared was “Chosen,” a two-year-old pit bull.

A dog fight devolved into a shooting on Friday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale fire rescue personnel reported treating a man for dog bites and taking the woman to the Broward Health Medical Center.

According to Casey Liening, a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the woman’s hand was injured.

Police officers took the dog injured to the Veterinary Emergency Group in Fort Lauderdale.

“The dog is expected to survive,” Liening wrote.
