Afro-Cuban Santeria priests release 2024 predictions

‘Babalawos’ advise believers to prepare for more violence, financial problems

MIAMI — The high priests of the Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria announced on Tuesday that their predictions included more violence and financial problems in 2024.

The priests, better known as “babalawos,” released a list of predictions during a news conference in Spanish at the 10 de Octubre temple in Havana.

Lázaro Pijuán, a Santeria priest, told reporters that the root of the problems will be a “lack of understanding” and said there is a need for negotiations.

Lázaro Cuesta, a priest, encouraged Cuban authorities to acknowledge the public’s “state of desperation” and said their role was to diagnose problems.

The priests advised the public not to fall into debt, to be generous with their neighbors, and to be very vigilant of the well-being of children and pregnant women.
