MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Cessna 172 Skyhawk overturned and crashed on Tuesday afternoon in the Florida Everglades in Miami-Dade County.
A Miami-Dade County helicopter hovered over the crashed Cessna 172, where a pilot and a passenger were stranded.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Enrique Gonzalez, who wore a helmet, descended from the helicopter and stood on a wing.
“Those are my favorite calls,” Gonzalez said after the rescue.

Gonzalez helped the two, who were not injured but were stranded west of the Miami Executive Airport, which is home to several flight schools.
Gonzalez used a harness to help secure each of the victims, and a long cable to lift them, one at a time, so they could board the helicopter.
“They can’t get out of there on their own because you can’t walk out of that environment,” Gonzalez said. “The terrain is too difficult.”

According to FlightAware tracking data, the Cessna’s takeoff was shortly before 1:50 p.m. at the Miami Executive Airport, and it was “last seen” at 2:33 p.m.
The plane’s tail number registration lists the owner as the Pilot Training Center LLC, a company based out of the Miami Executive Airport, according to state records.
The rescue helicopter landed at the Miami Executive Airport with the two victims.
