MIAMI — The Miami Police Department released body-cam video related to the fatal police shooting of a 64-year-old man last year.
Records show surveillance video shows Ramon De Jesus Blanco, who had a history of alcohol abuse and mental health issues, stumbling as he walked out of his apartment on July 25, 2024, according to investigators.
A witness called 911 to report that De Jesus Blanco was a threat and used a cell phone to record a video of him standing under a tree and wielding a revolver in the Little Havana neighborhood, according to investigators.
De Jesus Blanco was shooting into the air before Miami police officers responded at Southwest Third Street and Fifth Avenue and ordered him to drop the weapon, according to Miami Police Chief Manny Morales.
After a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office reviewed the evidence and concluded the shooting was legally justified.
State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle released the report on Dec. 10. Assistant State Attorneys Sara Imm and Mari Jimenez concluded Sgt. David Bernal, and Officers George Narino and Pedro Moreno “reasonably believed that discharge of their firearms was necessary to prevent serious bodily harm to themselves or others.”
