Miami-Dade deputies: Men shoot law enforcement officers with paintball gun

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two men accused of shooting three off-duty law enforcement officers with a paintball gun.

Miguel Almanza and Brandon Unzueta targeted the trio from a gray moving truck on Dec. 20, near the Homestead Air Reserve Base, according to deputies.

One of the victims was wearing a bulletproof vest and running along with the other two in the area of Southwest 312 Street and 137 Avenue, according to deputies.

Deputies arrested Almanza, 18, and Unzueta, 19, about 15 minutes later at the Florida Turnpike’s overpass and Southwest 112 Avenue, according to deputies.

Almanza faced three charges of shooting or throwing a deadly missile. He appeared in court on Dec. 21, and a judge set his bond at $22,500.

Unzueta faced six charges: Three counts of shooting or throwing a deadly missile and three counts of battery. He also appeared in court on Dec. 21, and a judge set his bond at $22,500.

Court records show their arraignment hearing is at 9 a.m. on Feb. 18, and Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Ellen Sue Venzer is set to preside over their cases.
