Last-minute shoppers and travelers crowd airports and stores ahead of Christmas Eve

Airports and stores get busy days before Christmas

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Airports and stores in South Florida were busy on Sunday ahead of Christmas Eve on Wednesday and Christmas Day on Thursday.

There were long lines of cars at both the Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Parking was a challenge at the Aventura Mall, as shoppers rushed to make last-minute purchases for Christmas gifts.

The Transportation Security Administration warned travelers with Christmas gifts that lithium-ion batteries and snow globes with liquid aren’t allowed.

TSA workers may decide to unwrap gifts, so it’s probably best to do the gift wrapping after the screening before the flight.
