Sylvester Jordan Sylvester Jordan faced a murder charge on Saturday in Miami-Dade County after a fatal shooting on Thursday in Miami Gardens.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A 32-year-old man faced charges on Saturday in Miami-Dade County after a murder in Miami Gardens that a surveillance camera recorded, according to police.

Miami Gardens police officers responded to a shooting shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Thursday along Northwest 177 Terrace, near 33 Court.

Miami Gardens police officers reported finding Sylvester Grice Jordan holding a rifle in the front yard and Yasmany Rodriguez, the victim, near the front door.

Yamatsy Rodriguez, the victim’s wife, and Hellen Perez, the victim’s step-daughter, were inside the house with an 8-month-old baby, according to police.

Perez told police officers she had known Grice Jordan since 2006. After the two had a baby, Grice Jordan moved in with her mother and stepfather in April.

Perez said Grice Jordan was causing trouble, so he moved out on Dec. 15 and returned to pick up his dog on Thursday, according to police.

Perez’s mother, Yamatsy Rodriguez, said her husband ran into Grice Jordan in the front yard after leaving to buy cigarettes at a gas station, and the two got into an argument that turned into a fight, according to police.

Miami Gardens police officers reported that a surveillance camera recorded a video that shows Grice Jordan shoot the victim and point the rifle at his head after he fell, according to an arrest report.

Based on the video and witness statements, police officers reported that Grice Jordan ordered the victim to hand over his keys, counted about five seconds, and shot him in the head, according to a police report.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel used a helicopter to fly the victim to Aventura Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead, according to police.

Detectives reported seizing a gun that was in Grice Jordan’s parked gray Ford Mustang, and a rifle and a firearm that were on the ground in the front yard, according to the arrest report.

Inmate records show corrections booked Grice Jordan shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, and he remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Saturday night without bond.

Court records show Grice Jordan faced charges of second-degree murder and displaying a weapon while committing a felony. He also has an out-of-county arrest warrant.
