AVENTURA, Fla. — Thanksgiving and this holiday season have been difficult for the family of a shooting victim who has been fighting for his life in Miami-Dade County.
Detectives have been searching for a road rage shooter who was driving a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck northbound on Interstate 95 when a father was wounded on Nov. 20 near Ives Dairy Road.
The 57-year-old father remained hospitalised on Thursday at the HCA Florida Aventura Hospital’s intensive care unit
“He is barely stable, back and forth, the last two weeks,” the victim’s 18-year-old daughter said.
A bullet tore through her father’s chest, damaged his right lung, and was lodged in his spinal cord. He underwent surgery to remove metal fragments from the bullet.
A surgeon removed a big portion of his right lung. The victim’s daughter said her mother’s faith and the power of prayer have been making a difference. Her mother hasn’t left his side, and she and her sister sit by his bedside to talk to him.
“We were very sure this whole time that he heard everything we were saying,” the 18-year-old woman said, and she asked the community to pray for them.
Another one of his daughters set up a GoFundMe page to ask for support. If he survives, he will have to undergo rehabilitation.
“My home feels empty, quiet, and overwhelmed with fear all because of one violent moment that should never have happened,” she wrote.
Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
