HealthCast: Here is now at-home flu vaccine nasal spray works

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — Elizabeth Bodin is very excited about the FDA-approved FluMist, a nasal spray that can be ordered online and delivered to homes.

Pediatricians can prescribe it to children as young as 2 years old, and physicians can prescribe it to adults as old as 50.

“It’s delivered with cold packs in a cold-chain shipping model,” said Bodin, who represents AstraZeneca, the company behind the needle-free nasal spray flu vaccine.

Bodin leads AstraZeneca’s marketing, sales, and access strategy for the British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company’s respiratory and immunology therapy.

The delivery is about $9.

“It’s quite easy to administer,” Bodin said. “All they do is take it out of its packaging, put it into one nostril, spray the device, remove a clip from the middle, and then spray it into the other nostril.”
