MIAMI — The Miami Heat dancers are gearing up for a new season and they’re looking to add some new faces to the squad.
They’re looking for 18 to 22 dancers.
“I’m looking for the best of the best,” Miami Heat Dancers Director of Entertainment Natalia Gonzalez said.
One of the most recognizable dance teams in the NBA is building their new roster and leading the charge is Coach Gonzalez, a Miami native and former Heat dancer.
“I was on the team for four years,” she said. “I was lucky enough to be a captain and then I made the transition to coach, and then a couple of years ago, I was promoted to director of entertainment.”
“We’re about to host some of our workshops, which we invite anybody that wants to come out and learn some of the audition choreography, get some one-on-one feedback from myself and current dancers,” Gonzalez added. “We even give them insight on how to write a resume (and) what are standout headshots.”
The next workshop is on July 24 -- a prep session ahead of the big audition on July 26.
And yes, the door is wide open.
“You have to be 18 and over, but the sky is the limit,” Gonzalez said. “If you’re over 30 over 40 and want to come out, and you have rhythm, come on out.”
“You need to start with confidence,” Heat dancer Chelsea Varsace added. “Being able to demand the court, but also being a great role model in the community, out in Miami and being an all-around good woman.”
