It’s the largest coral reef system in the entire world and home to a plethora of underwater wildlife, but it also serves to protect the shore.

After a beautiful and slightly bumpy catamaran cruise through the Coral Sea, our Eco Hero crew was more than ready to jump right in to their next adventure.

While some of the members of the Eco Hero team had snorkeled around South Florida’s corals, the Great Barrier Reef is a whole other level of underwater life, some of which is thousands of years old.

They got to snorkel in two different areas of the massive reef.

Local 10’s Eco Hero Brielle Martinez said she was trying to soak in every special moment.

While climate change and cyclones have caused erosion on the reef, the group’s guides said they also see areas that are bouncing back.
