Abraham Quintanilla Jr., father of late singer Selena, dies at 86, family says

LAREDO, Tex. — Abraham Quintanilla Jr., father of the late Tejano and Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla, has died at 86, his family announced on Instagram Saturday morning.

“It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today,” his son, Abraham Quintanilla III, wrote in alongside a photo of his father.

No cause of death was disclosed.

Abraham Quintanilla is survived by his son, his daughter Suzette Quintanilla, and his wife, Marcella Quintanilla, whom he married in 1963.

A singer, songwriter and record producer, Abraham Quintanilla formed the band Selena y Los Dinos and managed Selena’s career before she was killed in 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar.

Saldívar is serving a life sentence and was denied parole back in March.
