Miami police investigate Coconut Grove shooting

MIAMI — One person died and another was injured during a shooting on Wednesday night in Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood.

According to Officer Michael Vega, a spokesman for the Miami Police Department, the shooting occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Southwest 37th Avenue and Southwest 33rd Street.

Police officers responded to the shooting after receiving a ShotSpotter alert. Miami Fire Rescue personnel helped 30-year-old Robert Denardes Whittle Jr. who later died at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Vega said the person who suffered minor injuries refused treatment.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and receive a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
