PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — The Local 10 Day of Giving is back on Friday, celebrating 12 years of collecting non-perishable foods for nonprofit organizations spreading hope by fighting against hunger in South Florida.
Since 2014, the Local 10 Day of Giving’s community effort has distributed upwards of 125,000 pounds of food and benefitted seven nonprofits in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties.
This year, the Local 10 Day of Giving will benefit Curley’s House, Harvest Drive, Joshua’s Heart, Make-A-Wish Veterans, Manna-Share-A Meal, Star-of-the-Sea Foundation, and The Caring Place.
“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” said Louise Gigliotti, the chief “miracle worker” at Manna-Share-A-Meal.
At 6 a.m., a team of Local 10 News anchors and reporters and the nonprofits’ volunteers started to accept community donations of non-perishable foods at six Publix stores in South Florida.
“The Day of Giving is extraordinary,” said Renee Herman, the founder and executive director of Harvest Drive. “It makes a huge impact on our collections.”
To join the effort in Miami-Dade, visit the teams at two Publix stores: The store at 9105 South Dadeland Boulevard in Kendall and the store at 9050 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Shores.
“This is going to help so many programs throughout Miami-Dade County as well as individuals, families, kids, and everybody else ... in need,” said Lavern Spicer, the founder and executive director of Curley’s House.
To join the effort in Broward, visit the teams at three stores: The store at 1003 East Commercial Boulevard in Oakland Park, the store at 1700 Sheridan St. in Hollywood, and the store at 15729 Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines.
To join the effort in Monroe County, visit the team at 101499 Overseas Highway in Key Largo.
The teams planned to remain at the stores until sundown to report on their communities’ generosity.

Those who are unable to visit the stores can still join the effort online through the secure and convenient Local 10 Fund with The Miami Foundation by selecting “Day of Giving” in the form, and 100% of the amount donated will go toward the nonprofits.
