North Miami Beach woman threw bleach-filled coffee mug in boyfriend’s eyes, police say

Chatelyne Paul

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A North Miami Beach woman is facing a first-degree felony charge after police said she threw a “coffee mug filled with bleach” in her boyfriend’s face and then hit him with a mirror.

Police said they responded to the Northeast 158th Street home of Chatelyne Paul, 32, just after 2:45 a.m. Friday.

According to an arrest report, Paul told deputies that she and her boyfriend of five years were arguing about “a previous landlord-tenant issue.”

Police said Paul claimed the argument got physical when her boyfriend “attempted to grab her by the arm as she was walking away and later began to spit at her direction” and claimed he tried to “grab her by the neck,” but officers noted “no visible injuries” and she refused to be photographed for injuries.

The report states that the victim denied Paul’s allegations and told officers that the argument turned physical when he tried to grab their 4-year-old daughter “to prevent her from seeing the argument.”

That’s when police said the woman hurled the bleach-filled mug at him and then hit him with the mirror.

“It is to be noted that the (victim) was observed with lacerations to his face and what appeared to be small fragments of glass on his forehead next to the injuries,” an officer wrote.

Authorities said the man “refused to provide a sworn written statement due to his eyes burning from the bleach.”

Police arrested Paul on a charge of aggravated battery with a weapon causing bodily harm.

As of Friday afternoon, she was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
