DANIA BEACH, Fla. — Spirit Airlines is asking guests on Monday not to go to the airport, or to expect rebookings to other airlines.
Instead, the struggling discount carrier — that has twice filed for bankruptcy — announced that they will “automatically process refunds” for flights purchased through Spirit with a credit or debit card.

A few travelers were still having to adapt on Monday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. And so was JetBlue.
On Monday, JetBlue announced 11 new destinations out of FLL, including Barranquilla and Cali, Colombia; Baltimore; and Charlotte, North Carolina.
“We’re stepping up for Fort Lauderdale to ensure the availability of air service in this market,” Marty St. George, JetBlue’s president, said in a statement.
JetBlue was also offering Spirit Airlines Free Spirit Silver and Gold members a TrueBlue Mosaic program status match.
On Monday, at FLL, Howard Musgrove said he was in Mississippi and looking forward to his cruise adventure out of South Florida when he learned that his flight was canceled.
Musgrove said Spirit Airlines refunded him directly.
“I had to start scrambling to find another ride,” Musgrove said.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Spirit Airlines had ceased operations at 3 a.m. on Saturday, during a news conference at Newark Liberty International Airport.

“Spirit does not have airplanes in the air flying as of this morning. Also, their call centers are closed, and they don’t have staff at ticket counters,” Duff said. “So, if you have a flight scheduled with Spirit Airlines, don’t show up at the airport. There will be no one here to assist you.”
Duff said United Airlines, Delta, and JetBlue were capping ticket prices for Spirit Airlines customers.
“You have to go to their websites to take advantage of these special offers,” Duff said.
